Dinosaur Jr and Disneyland in Paris

The best fireworks and projection show I've ever seen // Disneyland, Paris

9/2/13 Saturday, Nice, France.

We caught the night train here. So much has happened!

We arrived in Paris – our hotel was really nice – clean and flash! From there we went out walking, went up to Pigalle, Moulin Rouge, and then along to the Arc de Triomphe. Went home and rested a bit then went out for tea... which was yum! From there a wee walk to the Opera House where Phantom of the Opera was set at.

[Okay, can we just stop here and think about these experiences? Here I am rambling them off in my diary. I am so lucky! I can still remember eating our meal in Paris that night – we ate it outside the restaurant and watched the people walk past. We got given a branded box of matches and I remember craving cigarettes as those around us were puffing away.]

We woke up, got our bags, and left them at our current hotel reception and hired some bikes. Checked out the Lourve first, then Victor Hugo's street/birthplace. From there we brought food and wine and ate it underneath the Eiffel Tower. Woah, so amazing! So high and windy. It's surreal thinking about it. The Auckland Sky Tower is two metres higher? Ditched our bikes and walked to our new hotel (mistook directions but on the way found Les Animals which makes an appearance later).

The next hotel wasn't great! Dirty and bed was shitty. We hired out bikes again to bike to the area for the Dinosaur Jr gig. Found a place that served kebabs and fries, and from there a bar (had lots of records on display) to have a drink at. After skulling our vodka we went to the coolest gig. First time I've ever seen that the mens toilets were queued longer than the ladies toilets.

The next day I was feeling seedy but we hopped on the train to go to Disneyland.

I LOVED IT SO MUCH!

On the second ride which was the first fast ride we'd been on for the day, I lost one of my contact lenses. It was on the Aerosmith ride. But it was so worth it! Toystory Land was great. I love Disney stories and characters but the best part of the day has to be the spectacular amazing fireworks/projection showcase. Simply amazing. So cool. But we were feeling shattered from the massive day.

We headed home and woke up the next day to find out we couldn't leave for Nice until the night time as all the other trains were booked up – that's what you get when you are spontaneous! Rats.

We ditched our bags at the hotel reception and rented bikes again. We went to the cemetery first as it was good weather. Saw Moliere, Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrison's grave – and stumbled across Chopins grave too. Hungry we biked away to Notre Dames (Hunchback story) and ate lunch and fed the birds.

We then went to the Lourve and decided there wasn't enough time to look through so instead had a coffee and a tart [Regret: not going to see the artwork inside]. We then biked back through and found a sweet bar (Les Animals). On the way I brought some Levi jeans to replace my Dejours so I changed into them in the bar. Yay! By the time we'd had some drinks we headed to the station for our night time. Dinner was a panini at the cafe train station.

So this night time train – bizarre. We slept on it and shared the room with others. It was a very jolty ride and arrived in Nice feeling tired from lack of sleep and feeling like I'd been on a roller-coaster/boat ride.

We arrived at our hotel expecting to have to ditch our bags as it was so early but we were allowed up to our rooms! The small things make sooooo much difference. The room was dated and old school but it worked. Had the best shower and then wandered down to the waterfront. We brought drinks and fries whilst sitting on this luxurious couch literally on the stony beach. Simply a great experience! It was relaxing plus really sunny with hot-ish weather. I even took my shoes off!

We decided to keep the mood going and went to get some wine from the supermarket, then brought takeaway pizza and ate it on the beach. Pizza and white wine. We've been drinking heaps!

Feeling sleepy we headed back to the hotel for tele and sleep. We should venture out but so comfortable with chocolate and bed right now. Cannes tomorrow x

[From writing out my diary entries I feel like this has got to be the best one in terms of my experiences. I am smiling and feeling giddy about the cool time I had in Paris and Nice. We saw Dinosaur Jr, Opera House, Disneyland... the list goes on!]
