Broccoli and Brussels - Flashback Diary

5/2/13 Brussels - Train to Paris on a Tuesday.

We pretty much arrived in Brussels on the bad side of town. Wasn't the nicest start to Belgium. Our hotel was funny - it didn't have all of its lights working and the ceiling was really low down. After arriving we went out of the hotel and went walking - there we saw the square at night time which was beautiful! JE saw a cafe he wanted to go to the next day (which we did in the morning). We went and had a beer and fries at a tavern in the square. The experience wasn't that great as we couldn't choose our seats and our fries took ages to arrive. Needless to say this didn't make us happy. No tips for them! But come on - we are in Belgium!

Wandered home - brought Chinese (lol - NZders in Belgium eating Chinese) and watched some tele. Lovely. The next morning we went to the cafe where we read and I had a weird tasting latte. After we explored to find waffles - one plain and the other with dark chocolate on it. A man took a photo of us because JE's beanie matched my Ruby jacket. From there we walked through the Palaces park, past EU then to a massive gate. The whole reason for walking all that way was to get some infamous fries at Maison Antoine. They were very crunchy and filling! We saved some for later and ate them cold at the hotel. A must experience for anyone who likes fries visiting Brussels.

It started raining so we got coffee and then explored to find the peeing boy. He was really small and not at all amazing as I thought he might be, but was pretty spectacular being there seeing something so famous.

JE went out by himself later that night to the dairy to get some beers and got harassed by a group of young males. Poor guy. They put their leg around his or something and were shouting stuff he couldn't understand. Think that frightened him a bit and put a massive dampener on Brussels.

We're making three changovers to get to Paris to save €40. Think it's definitely worth it. Learning some of the language right now on the train. I'm getting really excited about FRANCE - Ahhhh!

Au revoir xx
