What seemed like a boring weekend #flashbacks in Edinburgh, Scotland

Diary entry from: 11th May 2014 in Edinburgh, Scotland

Although it feels like we've done so much this weekend we really actually haven't.

On Friday night we got some potato cakes, salsa and falafel balls from the supermarket in Stockbridge and went up to Inverleith Park to enjoy the weak Edinburgh spring sun. Jared saw a student and I thought it was awkward. I also wore ridiculous heels for our evening picnic and walked across the grassy field. That was awkward too.

On Saturday Jared umpired a game of cricket, so for the whole morning I just watched girly TV shows i.e Hart of Dixie. We're still on the Scottish Potato Cake buzz so we had them for lunch with beans. Exciting times in our lives huh.

In the afternoon we shifted ourselves down the street to Blue Bear Cafe and played Scrabble with a alcoholic ginger beer before heading home to get ready for 'town' with friends. 'Town' is really slang for Bring Your Own bottle of wine, go to a restaurant, get sloshed and stumble to a bar. We went to The Nile Valley Cafe and here I tried African food; Sudanese food to be specific. Other than a mince plate getting mixed up with a veggie plate it was delicious and then we partied until 2AM dancing!

Surprisingly I didn't even wake up with a hangover, so spritely I made breakfast and experimented with making a Freddo Espresso (AKA the drink from our Greece trip). I love consuming food/drinks, so after a mundane shopping trip to Tesco I made a coconut milk, peanut and banana smoothie (with a dash of golden syrup and blocks of ice). This drink changes the game. Oh man. So good!

We went and played basketball after checking out the local op shop and it was there, at the courts, that I ripped my brand new, okay not so new, vintage Levi 501 jeans (thanks Urban Outfitters!). A big fat hole in the crouch region! Like, a total split. Swivel the jersey around and I'm heading home.

[As mundane as Edinburgh was to me, as it was my home when we were travelling, I miss it so much. Looking back it feels like the experiences I had in Edinburgh were part of a holiday. -- said Kirsty living in Dublin as she is about to move back to New Zealand]
